Smith County Sheriff Larry R. Smith announced his endorsement of Republican Debby Gunter, candidate for Judge of the 241st District Court.

“Debby Gunter has the right attitude, knowledge, work ethic, and demeanor to make a great judge of the 241st State District Court. I have known Debby for many years, having worshipped with her at Green Acres Baptist Church as well as serving alongside her on the Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Directors,” Smith said. “I have no doubt whatsoever Debby will take this responsibility seriously and apply the law as it is written to keep our community safe for all citizens. Debby will be a judge who will make Smith County proud. Please join me in supporting Debby Gunter for the next judge of the 241st State District Court of Smith County.”

Gunter is currently a partner at Findlay Craft, P.C. in Tyler where she handles complex civil cases. She was born and raised in Smith County and returned home after graduating from law school. She has practiced law across East Texas, in both state and federal court, for the past 21 years.

“I have the utmost respect for Sheriff Smith, and I am incredibly honored that the Sheriff supports my effort to become the next judge of the 241st District Court,” Gunter said. “Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. I have a great appreciation for the work the Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies do every day in an effort to keep our community safe.”

Gunter recently set a fundraising record for Smith County District Court candidates by raising over $86,000 in just 45 days. At this time, no other candidate has announced their intention to seek this position. The Republican Primary election will be held in 2022.
